-By Land:
You can enter Nepal overland from both India and Tibet. If you’re in Tibet, you can cross the border at Kodari and then take a bus to Kathmandu, which takes between 7 to 12 hours, depending on road conditions. There are several land entry points from the Nepal-India border, including Kakarvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalganj, Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar, and Sunauli. Public and tourist buses operate to these locations from Kathmandu. Though road trips take longer, they are often cheaper if you choose budget accommodations and transport. Additionally, traveling overland gives you the chance to experience beautiful views of valleys, mountains, and winding roads.
The most straightforward and hassle-free overland route from India to Nepal is via Gorakhpur, using the train to the Sunauli/Belahiya border post. Direct buses from this route to Kathmandu run at night and take about 9 hours. The Raxaul/Birgunj border post can also be used, though it may not provide the most pleasant travel experience. If you’re in Darjeeling, you can enter Nepal via Kakarvitta. There are also several border crossings in western Nepal.
