Entry Procedure and Visa Rules
Visas for Nepal can be obtained at Nepalese Embassies or Consulates abroad, or upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. To apply, you will need to provide a valid passport, two passport-sized photos, and payment for the visa fee. Tourists can also extend their visas at the Department of Immigration in Kalikasthan, Dillibazar, Kathmandu. Additionally, online visa applications are available. Visa Fees and Extensions
Visas can be extended for individuals who wish to stay longer than 60 days at the Department of Immigration in Kalikasthan, Dillibazar, Kathmandu. Children under the age of 10 are exempt from paying the visa fee. Two passport-sized photographs are required.
Multiple entry 15 days US$ 30 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry 30 days US$ 50 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry 90 days US$ 125 or equivalent convertible currency
Tourist Visa Extension
The visa extension fee for 15 days or less is US $45 or the equivalent in convertible currency. For extensions exceeding 15 days, the fee is US $3 per day. A tourist visa can be extended for up to a maximum of 150 days within a single visa year (from January to December).
Gratis (Free) Visa
A free 30-day visa is available exclusively for tourists from SAARC countries. Indian nationals do not need a visa to enter Nepal. However, starting from October 2000, Indians traveling by air to Nepal must present either a valid passport or a voter’s identity card issued by the Election Commission of India upon arrival. In exceptional cases, a temporary identity card with a photograph, issued by Nepal-based Indian diplomatic missions, is acceptable. Children under 10 years old are not required to show any identification. For students aged 10-18 years, a school or college photo ID card is sufficient.
Transit Visa
A one-day transit visa can be obtained at Nepal’s immigration offices at the entry points upon presenting a departure flight ticket via Tribhuvan International Airport. The fee is US $5 or the equivalent in convertible currency. Tourist Visa
A foreigner wishing to visit Nepal must possess a valid passport or any travel document equivalent to a passport, issued by their government for international travel, before applying for a visa.
A) Entry:
No foreigner is allowed to enter or stay in Nepal without a valid visa. A tourist entry visa can be obtained for various durations from Nepalese Embassies, Consulates, or other diplomatic missions, as well as immigration offices at entry points in Nepal. Chinese citizens are required to apply for a visa at a Nepalese Embassy or other Nepalese diplomatic missions, as there is no provision for an on-arrival visa for them.
B) Visa Fee:
1. Fee required obtaining Tourist Visa from Nepalese diplomatic agencies and entry points:
- US $ 30 or equivalent foreign currency for Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 15 days.
- US $ 50 or equivalent foreign currency for Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 30 days.
- US $ 125 or equivalent foreign currency for Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 100 days.
- Regardless of the provision stated in 1(a) and 1(b), tourists with passport from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations aren´t required to pay visa fee for 30 days
2. Fee to be levied for renewal or regularization of tourist visa
- Regardless of provision stated in 2(a), 15 days is counted as minimum extension period and visa fee is charged accordingly. For extension period more than 15 days, visa fee is charged as per the provision of 2(a).
- Nepalese currency equivalent to US $ 3 per day to renew the validity of tourist visa.
- If multiple entry facility is required to be valid for the renewed period, additional US $ 20 along with fees prescribed in 2 (a) has to be paid.
- Foreigner who have stayed here without renewing visa, need to pay Nepalese currency equivalent to US $ 5 per day along with the reqired extension fee.
- Foreigners, who have already overstayed for more than 150 days without renewing tourist visa shall be levied the fees referred in clause 2(c) and a penalty of Rs 50,000 as per the Immigration Act.
Note:
- A tourist visa is granted for a maximum of 150 days within a visa year (from January to December).
- A tourist who leaves before the visa’s specified expiry date cannot carry over the remaining days to the next visa year.
- However, foreign visitors who enter Nepal towards the end of a visa year can use the remaining days of their visa in the following visa year.
