The Mardi Himal is a brief and uncomplicated trek in the Annapurna Region. The Mardi Himal 6 Days Trek commences just after a two-hour drive from the renowned tourist hub of Nepal, Pokhara. The trek presents breathtaking views of the magnificent mountains in the Annapurna Region. The Mardi Himal Trek was once a lesser-known trek in the Annapurna trekking area, but it has seen a significant rise in foreign and local tourist numbers in recent years.
The trek begins with approximately a two-hour drive to Kande from Pokhara. Once we reach Kande, our walking path officially starts as we embark on our hike to Australian Camp. The trail is moderate and easy to navigate. It becomes somewhat steeper towards Australian Camp and then downhill to Pothana from Australian Camp. The initial part of this trek is simple and manageable for beginner trekkers.
Unlike other trekking paths, this route does not traverse through local villages from Pothana. The trekking trail runs under the trees, providing an adventurous feel even on this easy trek. As the altitude increases, the size of the trees begins to diminish. The Mardi Himal Trail is abundant in jungle resources, filled with rhododendron and alpine trees.
Upon reaching high camp, the temperature starts to drop, and you may even experience dizziness. There is a significant possibility of mild symptoms such as dizziness while arriving at high camp. High Camp serves as the final stopping point before Mardi Himal Base Camp. In clear weather, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the Mardi Himal and other mountains in the Annapurna Range.
After walking for two to three hours early in the morning, you will arrive at the Mardi Himal base camp, which stands at an elevation of 4200 meters above sea level. Mardi Himal Base Camp provides the most stunning views of the magnificent Annapurna Range. The viewpoint at Mardi Himal Base Camp offers an incredible sunrise illuminating the mountains. To witness this view, you must be fortunate enough to have favorable weather conditions.

Mardi Himal
Mardi Himal reaches a height of 5587 meters and serves as the primary attraction of this trek. We will arrive at the base of Mardi Himal to enjoy the closest perspective of Mardi Himal from the Mardi Himal Viewpoint. Your adventure commences early in the morning as you leave Kathmandu and proceed to Pokhara, the entry point to the Annapurna region. If you opt to travel by tourist bus, the 200 km distance takes approximately 6–7 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes of terraced fields, verdant hills, and flowing rivers. Along the route, you’ll appreciate the beauty of the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers, renowned for white-water rafting. Alternatively, a 25-minute flight provides a panoramic view of the Himalayas, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Upon reaching Pokhara, you will check into your hotel and have the remainder of the day to discover this delightful lakeside city. You can enjoy a boat ride on Phewa Lake, visit the Tal Barahi Temple situated in the lake's center, or take a stroll along Lakeside, an energetic area filled with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops. If time allows, sightseeing at Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, or the World Peace Pagoda offers an excellent introduction to Pokhara’s allure. After savoring the lively atmosphere, you will relax overnight in Pokhara, gearing up for the trek ahead.
After having a early breakfast, you will embark on a 1. 5-hour journey to Kande, the beginning point of the trek. From Kande, the path climbs through green forests and stone steps to Australian Camp (2,055m), a well-known viewpoint that provides stunning panoramic vistas of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli. You will keep trekking through rhododendron forests, passing by Pothana (1,950m) and Deurali (2,100m), where you can catch a captivating view of the Pokhara Valley and its surrounding hills.
From Deurali, the path diverges from the primary Annapurna Base Camp trail and enters thick forests, steadily ascending towards Forest Camp (2,600m). This part of the trek is tranquil, as fewer hikers traverse this route, enabling you to appreciate the calm beauty of the jungle. The chirping of birds and the crisp mountain air enhance the enjoyment of this segment. After approximately 6–7 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Forest Camp, a small community featuring a handful of teahouses. The evening is spent resting and savoring a warm meal beneath a sky full of stars.
The hike from Forest Camp to High Camp is among the most scenic parts of the trek. The path continues through thick rhododendron and oak woods prior to reaching Low Camp (3,050m). As you ascend, the plant life starts to lessen, and you will start to notice more of the Himalayan summits, including the striking Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain).
From Low Camp, the route becomes steeper as you rise towards High Camp (3,580m). The scenery shifts considerably, transitioning to fewer trees and more alpine vegetation. Traversing the ridge, you will be treated to stunning panoramic vistas of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The air grows crisper, and the sensation of being high in the mountains is invigorating.
Upon arriving at High Camp, you will be rewarded with a magnificent sunset view over the Himalayas. The sky transforms into shades of orange and pink, rendering it one of the most enchanting moments of the journey. After a long but gratifying day, you will enjoy a warm meal and rest early, gearing up for the strenuous hike to Mardi Himal Viewpoint the following day.
This is the most thrilling and demanding day of the trek. You will wake up before sunrise and commence your climb to Mardi Himal Viewpoint (4,500m). The early morning trek is steep and challenging, but the effort is extremely rewarding. As you navigate the narrow ridge, the views grow increasingly breathtaking with each step. The emerging sun gradually reveals the snow-covered peaks, producing a surreal golden light over Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli.
Reaching the Mardi Himal Viewpoint is a fulfilling achievement. At 4,500 meters, you will experience a genuine sense of success as you take in the awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the Himalayas and the vast valleys beneath. After spending some time immersing yourself in the scenery, capturing photographs, and savoring the moment, you will return to High Camp for breakfast.
The descent proceeds to Low Camp (3,050m), retracing your steps through alpine fields and woodlands. After a long and rewarding day, you will enjoy a well-deserved rest at Low Camp, reflecting on the stunning sunrise and views you experienced.
Instead of going back to Kande by retracing your steps, you’ll opt for a different route that leads you down towards Siding Village (1,750m). This new path guides you through lovely Gurung settlements, providing an insight into the traditional lifestyle of the residents. The trail primarily slopes downward, rendering it a fairly easy and pleasant walk.
Siding is a tranquil village characterized by terraced fields, delightful homes, and amiable locals. From this point, a jeep will transport you for a 2. 5-hour ride back to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara, you can take a well-deserved break at your hotel or further explore the city. Savor a delicious meal at one of the numerous lakeside restaurants while reflecting on the remarkable journey you’ve just experienced.
After having breakfast, you’ll depart from Pokhara and return to Kathmandu. The tourist bus trip lasts approximately 6–7 hours, following the picturesque route through hills, rivers, and the countryside. If you choose to fly, the journey only takes 25 minutes, allowing you more time to discover Kathmandu upon your arrival.
Once back in Kathmandu, you can spend the day unwinding, visiting Thamel for souvenir shopping, or exploring cultural sites such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) or Boudhanath Stupa. In the evening, you might indulge in a celebratory Nepali dinner at a traditional restaurant, reminiscing about the astonishing adventure in the Himalayas. This concludes your Mardi Himal Trek, leaving you with cherished memories and a profound appreciation for Nepal’s natural beauty.
